I made this guide if you experience problems such as a slow internet connection or inappropriate bandwidth where the internet connection is currently using a router (which is generally used with other nearby devices at the same time). So it is hoped that you will get maximum results by using only 1 device as a comparison with a router.
Please also ensure that the transmission medium from the ISP is an RJ 45 ethernet cable to connect to PC/laptop devices. The topology used in the guide is as follows, and can be adapted to conditions at the site :
ISP <–> wall jack <==> router becomes ISP <–> wall jack <==> PC / laptop
<–> = transmission media
<==> = RJ 45 ethernet cable
- Make sure the Ethernet status is Enabled and cross (please remove the LAN cable first) as shown above,, to make sure to right-click the LAN icon in the lower right and select Open Network and Sharing Center.
- In the Network and Sharing Center window, click Change adapter settings, make sure the Ethernet that you want to use is Enable, if it is still Disable, right-click the Ethernet and select Enable it will change to Enable with a cross. If Ethernet does not appear, please confirm that the driver has been installed correctly.
3. Connect the end of the LAN cable to walljack and the other end of the cable to the PC or laptop, the LAN indicator will change to an exclamation point, if you still get a cross, you must check the LAN cable and the connected device (port or configuration).
Note: this connection is not related to the previously configured IP Address so that it does not need a static / dyamic IP, because it will get a new IP Address obtained from the ISP, generally in the form of a Public IP.
- Return to the Network and Sharing Center then click Set up a new connection or Network.
5. Select Connect to the Internet then Next.
6. Select Broadband (PPPoE).
7. Fill in the username and password provided from the ISP, if you use many ISPs, it is recommended that the Connection name be given the name of the ISP, then click Connect.
8. If it works then it will appear like the following picture and the LAN indicator has changed to Connected, click Browse the Internet now to start browsing or click Close to close the window, if the image does not appear below or a certain error appears, it can be asked to the ISP, until this step the PPPoE guide has finished.
9. Don’t forget to disconnect if it’s finished so the connection session doesn’t “hang” from the ISP side. For that click on the LAN icon in the lower right, select the PPPoE name then click Disconnect.
10. To facilitate PPPoE access further, shortcuts can be created on the Desktop by right-clicking the PPPoE name and selecting Create Shortcut.
11. If at any time the Dial-up Connection window appears as shown below, click Settings.
12. On the Connections tab, select the name ISP / PPPoE then select Never dial a connection and click OK.
